THE VINEYARDS
We like to keep it all in the family at Buller, so fruit is drawn from our two vineyards in Rutherglen and Beverford, run by Andrew and Rick Buller respectively. Our Rutherglen winery, Calliope, is 42 km from Albury-Wodonga. Beverford is on the Murray Valley Highway, 16km north of Swan Hill in the burgeoning Swan Hill wine region.
Rutherglen (Calliope)
Calliope is our original vineyard and winery, established by Reginald Langdon Buller in 1921. Famous for producing our delicious fortified wines and gutsy, full-bodied reds, the backbone of our vineyard is Rutherglen Shiraz. Our old Shiraz vines at Calliope are not irrigated so our yields are low at about one tonne to the acre. This means that although the quantities are small, the fruit from this vineyard produces intense flavours that Andrew Buller crafts into wines that have a depth and elegance that is outstanding. We also have small plantings of some of the rarer varieties including Mondeuse and Cinsaut.
Beverford
Blessed with a sunny climate, good soils and ample water, the Swan Hill Winegrowing Region was the ideal spot for Reginald Buller to expand his business in 1951. With the progressive addition of stainless steel storage tanks, modern equipment and refrigeration, our production at Beverford has grown significantly over the years. As well as grapes from our own vineyard, we process fruit from growers throughout the region, some of whom have supplied us for three generations.
